David Cook’s brother dies of brain cancer
David Cook’s brother Adam, 37, died Saturday after battling cancer for more than 10 years. American Idol star David Cook announced Sunday before the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C.

“Like everybody here, I’m affected by this disease. I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now,” Cook, 26, told the crowd at the benefit for brain cancer research. “I lost one today,” Cook added. “But I’ve gained 9,000 and I will be here every year that they will have me.”
David Cook’s brother Adam had battled cancer throughout Cook’s American Idol competition, and had the chance to see his younger brother perform on the famous stage last April 2008. During that time, Adam, a married father, was undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
Fans can make donation to David’s Race for Hope team. Contributions will be accepted through Sept. 30. So far the team has raised more than $54,000.
