Obama Dog: A Portuguese Water Dog named Bo Arrives!
After months of anticipation, Obama’s Dog finally arrives. The first dog is a 6-month-old Portuguese water dog named Bo.
The dog was given by Portuguese water dog-lovin’ senator Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts. The Obama’s decided to name the dog Bo for two reasons: First – Obama’s girl Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7 have cousins with a cat named Bo Second – First Lady Michelle Obama’s father was nicknamed Diddley, after the singer Bo Diddley.
The Obama family is still deciding where Bo’s sleeping arrangements and who will walk and feed Bo. Local animal shelters encouraged the Obamas to adopt a rescue dog. According to the Washington Post, the Obamas are making a donation to the D.C. Humane Society.
