Amputated Brazilian model Mariana Bridi da Costa dies at 20
The Brazilian model Mariana Bridi da Costa whose hands and feet were amputated in a bid to save her life from a little-known and deadly disease, died at the age of 20 early Saturday.
Mariana Bridi da Costa 20, had fought a serious disease that damaged his body and doctors had forced to perform the amputations. She was first diagnosed as having a urinary tract infection by the doctors, by the time the infection was detected, it had developed into septicemia.
Henrique Fontes, executive director of Miss World Brazil, said in an e-mail to CNN.“Unfortunately Mari couldn’t resist any longer. She passed away at 3 a.m. today,”.
Mariana Bridi da Costa suffered necrosis, or the rapid deadening of tissue due to septicemia. Septicemia is an ill-defined term referring to the presence of bacteria in the blood and is often associated with severe disease. It can be a serious, life-threatening infection that gets worse very quickly.
