Yeng you’re the best coach ever! You select players with heart and soul to sacrifice for the team’s glory esp your red bull team and now the national team. I’m an avid fan of the PBA since 7 years old now i’m 31 y/o and a high school coach and learning more and more from your coaching style and from other coaches. Anyway, good luck in your conquest for the Olympics. God bless you!

All scorers? No enforcers in the mold of Gonzalgo, Distrito, Dela Cruz? How bout Omolon, Carey, Yeo, Crisano??? We need a bad boy from the team who can scare scorers from the oppponents.

Don don ba kamo?,well he’s a member of the national team before, but I think he’s not worth to be on the national team, maganda lang siya sa umpisa,in trainings & even exhibition matches, but not in the real game & we need real top 3 point shooters or scorers like Ryan Reyes & James Yap whom we can really depend on with consistency specially in playing international tournaments & playing the best teams in ASIA.

OOOPS,sorry to dis appoint you. but I think there are other known players whom are qualified for the position (like Ryan reyes & James Yap),Our National team lost very important games in FIBA-ASIA championships that was held in Japan last year, because of s lack of outside 3 point shooters, sorry to dis-appoint you,but that should be a learning experience for us & we must act on it for our national team.

hnd ako believe ky ryan reyes kht 2nd over all pick sha! dpt ilagay jan c don don hontiveros! super talented yan! questionable tlaga ang pagpasok n ryan reyes jan. fan ako ng talk n text,ok lng kht wla c alapag dhl nga under size,at unquestionable din c yap, ilang buzzer beater nba nagawa n yap?madame n din kya ok lng at nsa national team sha. ang akin lng instead of ryan reyes, dpt c don don ang naandun kc he can play PG or SG
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:40 am
To Jamil,ok lang po..if di ka bilib kay Ryan reyes, your entitled to your own opinion, I mean what your saying ius just based on your own judgement “without proper basis”,Dondon Hontiveros is a member of the national team for the Asian Games in South Korea & also a member of the National Team of the last FIBA-ASIA Championships that was held in Japan,I only asked you one question, during the last FIBA-ASIA championships, did Dondon Hontiveros performed well???????,it’s very obviously not, because he’s a mismatch to the other power house teams & did you watched on your television during their games???_____________________…….
It’s very obvious that we need another person who has the talent & skill to match the opposing teams, besides this is for the honor of our beloved country and if we want to win,we should make the adjustments. Dondon Hontiveros is if I’m not mistaken already a 2 time member of the national team & hope that we should give also chance to other players.

Hoping for the best for our National Team, Hopes that Team Philippines will improve in terms of their performance in International Tournaments especially in playing for the Best of The Best in Asia in terms of Basketball…

February 10th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

who are you going to match up with these top guys from Asia:
Rashiem Wright,Point Guard (6′4) JOR-Has proved that he could score in bunches.Must be one of the top smart point guards in Asia. His experience makes him difficult to guard plus he is smart enough to post anyone smaller than him.
Bahrami Mohammad Nikkah,Shooting Guard (6′8)IRI-He’s a great shooter from beyond the arc and he also knows how totake the ball styrong to the hoop.
Yi JianLian,Power Forward (6′11)CHN-the guy has unbelievable athleticism for a tall guy and we all know that he is NBA material.
Hamed Hedadi,Center (7′2)IRI-We all know that we have match up problems in the Center position.I think this guy is one of our worst match up nightmares.
Anton Panomarev,Power Forward/Center (6′10)KAZ-the young guy has proved that he is one of the top dogs in the Asian scene.I think hes a real match up nightmare because of his ability mobility as a big man. He’s a little lean but like Yi he could outjump anyone in the forward position.
Sun Yue,Point Guard (6′9)CHN-the only person who I think is a legit point guard in that height is Magic Johnson. The guy would also be a part of the Laker roster this year(correct me if i’m wrong).
Ha Seung Jin,Center (7′3)KOR-Asi Taulava did a great job on him last Jones Cup.This young guy is still a force to reckon with considering his height and heft.

Good day to everyone…
Just my comment…
Our National Team is really small when it comes to International Competition.
Our pg stands about 5′8″-6′0″, while our sg stands about 6′0″-63″, sf stands 6′4″-6′7″ (Danny Seigle – who is always injure when the real game begins), pf stands 6′5″-6′7″ and our center stands 6′9″. When you compare it to International Competition, it is really a small line-up, that is why other foriengn national teams has beaten us nowadays. Before, we are included in the top 3 best basketball country in ASIA, but now because of height problem, politics, lack of international experience, lack of cooperation and coordination and the NBA style of play (showtime, 1on1, and1 mix),other country won’t fear our National Team anymore, and it’s like they get the formulla how to beat us.
But i still keep my hopes up this year and the years to come, with the addition of new players in PBA (Dillinger, Castro, Norwood, Mercado) and amateur (Slaughter, Aguilar, Al-Hussaini, Ballesteros ), i know we can be a force again in ASIA. I believe that we can matchup well with other country eventhough we’re small.
Castro 5′10″, Ryan Reyes 6′2″, Dillinger 6′5″, Norwood 6′5″, Mercado 6′0″ can defend other 6′5″ PG/SG. These 5 new guys is a well defense orriented player that Hontiveroz, Ritualo, Yap and Caguioa.
Mercado has the speed and the body to push Rashiem around.
Castro is a proven defensive player also with his long-arms, great anticipation skills and speed.
Dillinger and Norwood 6′5″ who can play 1,2,3 with speed and long-arms.
DeVance 6′7″, Williams 6′7″, Washington 6′7″ can defend all SF who stand 6′7″ above. They do have the speed to matchup well against them.
Thoss 6′7″, JR Reyes 6′7″, Ballesteros 6′7″, Al-Hussaini 6′7″, Aguilar 6′9″, Eman 6′10″ and Slaugther 6′11″, can defend the power forward and center spot for our team. Most of them are leader in shoot block in their respective leagues. All this guys are defense orriented player, they can score anytime they want but they play defense so well also. They are our future i think.
J.Castro 5′10″
M.Solomon 6′0″
R.Reyes 6′2″
J.Dillinger 6′5″
G.Norwood 6′5″
K.Williams 6′7″
J.Devance 6′7″
J.Washington 6′7″
JR.Reyes 6′7″
S.Thoss 6′7″
R.Al-Hussainni 6′7″
J.Ballesteros 6′7″

I think this the best line-up for the RP national team.My team is composed of mix players who can run, defend, shoot 3’s,good offensive mindness, rebound. In the national tournamets,we are lacking in height, so we need the best 3 point shooters in this team because we can’t always attack the basket because we are very small compare to other countries. To add some height, i add 1 naturalize player to the roster to have some cieling and athleticism.
C.Asi Taulava-6?9
Pf.Kerby Raymundo-6?6

Pg.Ryan Reyes-6?2
Pg.Jay-jay Helterbrand-6?0
Pg.Willie Miller-5?10
Pg.Jason Castro-5?9(with his national exposure to the Singapore Slingers,he should be in this line-up with MVP honors there.

tama lang na hindi nakuha si dondon honteveros kasi 3 times na siya nag laro para sa ating bansa at saka james yap is so very competitive player interms oh outside shot at saka sa defense sana man lang na marealize ng mga tao na tama lang talaga ang nasa line up ni giao.
