Filipino-British Kid booted out of the Britain’s Got Talent
Filipino-British kid Charlie Green was booted out of the UK talent show “Britain’s Got Talent” semifinals. The 10 year old boy failed to make the final top 10 of the said talent reality show. Talent show creator and judge, Simon Cowell thought Green made a “bad song choice”.
Charlie got a split decision from the three judges and favoring the “NO”. Another Filipino, Madonna Decena is still in the competition. Green sang “All I Wanna Do is Sing”, an original song that was composed specifically for the performance.
First Filipino Woman To Win Emirates Business Woman Award
A Filipina chemist who became an engineer and chief executive officer of Geoscience Testing Laboratory in Dubai was among the eight winners of Emirates Business Woman Award (EBWA) 2008 and became the first Filipino woman to win the said awards.
Mary Jane Alvero-Al Mhadi bagged the first runner-up for the Professional Category of the Emirates Business Woman Award 2008, which made her the first Filipino to receive such a prestigious honor in the United Arab Emirates. Read more

Java founder James Gosling give award to a group of computer science students from University of the Philippines who developed the Expert Poisoning System (ESP). This team of computer science students from University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City was among of the teams worldwide who received the 2008 Duke’s Choice Award that recognized the year’s most influential JAVA technology-based application. Nur Misuari promotes the creation of four federal states instead of eleven which is proposed by Mindanao Senator Aquilino Pimentel. Misuari tries to convince House Speaker Prospero Nograles to support issue of federalism but only for four federal states namely Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and Metro Manila. 2 of 10 OFW in Saudi jailed for Crimes of Immorality
An estimate of 2 of 10 Overseas Filipino Worker’s (OFW) in Saudi Arabia are jailed for “crimes of immorality. Lots of crimes of immorality involving Filipinos, simply for holding hands and eating out together. Saudi laws prohibited woman from going out to public with men other than her relatives.
Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said laws against these offenses are drilled into leaving OFWs during their pre-departure orientation seminars, but acknowledged that the isolation and “sheer loneliness” of being in a strange land may be reasons why many succumb to these affairs. Read more
